Origin

The Legend of the Orange Pond

Every toad in the pond is born knowing this story. It is the only reason they let anyone near the water.

First · The mayfly years

For a thousand seasons the toads kept their wealth in mayflies. A fat spring meant a rich toad. Nobody thought to ask what happened to the flies in autumn, because in autumn there were always more flies, and more flies felt like more wealth. It took the toads a very long time to notice that a season's savings bought a smaller lunch every year.

Second · The Heron's generosity

The Heron stood at the north end of the pond and counted. When the toads were hungry, the Heron stirred the reeds and more mayflies rose, and the toads cheered, and the Heron called it generosity. It was never generosity. Every fly the Heron conjured came out of the flies the toads already had. The pond got louder and poorer at the same time, which is a difficult trick, and the Heron was very good at it.

Third · The drought

Then came the summer the water went down. An old toad named Gatsu walked out onto ground no toad had ever stood on and found the floor of the pond: a bed of orange stone, hard as a season is long. It could not be stirred up out of the reeds. It could not be counted into existence. It could only be dug, one heavy block at a time, and there was only ever going to be so much of it. Gatsu held a block up to the light and saw his own skin looking back at him. The toads had been orange the whole time. They just hadn't known why yet.

Fourth · Why the eyes look like that

The toads stopped counting flies and started counting blocks. A new one surfaces roughly every ten minutes, and the pond splits what comes up. The Heron still visits. It still stirs the reeds and promises a bigger spring. The toads just sit there, half-lidded, unbothered, waiting for the next block. That is what the face has always meant. It isn't boredom. It's a creature that already read the whitepaper.

How it's made

One toad, drawn from four sides

Cryptoads started as a single drawing of a grumpy orange toad, with outlines thick enough to survive being screenshotted, reposted and compressed into oblivion. Everything else on this site is that same toad, turned around. The turnaround sheet below is the working reference: it's what keeps him on-model across stickers, animation, merch and every future drop.

Notes from the artist

The rules are short: heavy uneven outline, no gradients doing the heavy lifting, warts stay asymmetric, and the eyes never open past half. The belly is one shade lighter than the body so he reads at 48 pixels, which is the size most people will ever see him at.

10%

Burned

Sent to a dead address at launch and gone for good. Supply only ever moves one direction, which is the entire point of the story above.

5%

Liquidity

Paired into the pool so there's actually water in the pond. Locked, because a pond you can drain isn't a pond.

The artist

To the wallet of the guy who draws the toads. Every angle, every sticker, every future toad in the pond comes out of this.

Wallets under the threshold are skipped when the pond pays out. Cross back over it and you are back in for the next one.

$4 of BTC has to build up first

Rewards accrue until they are worth at least $4, then they go out. Below that a payout would mostly be eaten by gas, so the pond waits.

Rewards come from trading volume. No volume, no dividends. This is a memecoin with a Bitcoin reward mechanic, not a savings product, and nothing here is a promise of income. Buy what you're happy to hold.

How to buy

Launching on Flap, on BNB Chain. Four steps, about three minutes.

Step 01

Install a BNB Chain wallet. MetaMask, Trust and Rabby all work. Keep the seed phrase off your phone's camera roll.

Step 02

Fund it with BNB. That covers the swap and the gas, and gas on BSC is cents.

Step 03

Open Flap, connect the wallet, and paste the contract address below. Check it character by character, because imposters show up fast.

Step 04

Swap and hold. BTC rewards land in the same wallet you bought with. Selling out means you stop getting paid.
